Outwitting the Devil Akram Khan Akram Khan Company

Outwitting the Devil. Akram Khan 28 September 2021 Athens at Herodion

“The effect of rhythms builds a hypnotic mechanics that conveys the fight as much as the terror. [...] One comes out of Outwitting the Devil more aware than ever of the ephemeral nature of existence.” — La Provence “Close to a restorative ritual, the show conjures up the founding myths to rejuvenate their key meaning. Through a carnal and expressive dance. [...] More than a catharsis (or purification of passions), Akram Khan’s dance brings together and reconciles energies.” — Paris art.com

We are proud to present in Athens  the Greek Premier of our latest coproduction  at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus,  with the Akram Khan Company

Outwitting the Devil by the acclaimed choregrapher Akram Khan

. Inspired by the newly discovered fragment of the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the world’s earliest surviving great works of literature, Akram’s new work is a concentrated epic about ritual and remembering. In a landscape of broken tablets and fallen idols, its  characters trade their remaining wealth and stories, seeking to make whole the fragments of ancient knowledge lost and forgotten over time.

“Minimalist yet mesmerizing fresco. […] The ecological dimension before the time of the poem, recalling the need to protect natural resources, inspired Khan to an inhabited choreography.  A  Great Work of Art.   A Master Piece.  Les Echo

Portraits in Otherness

''.No wonder Akram Khan wanted to develop and show this work. There’s talent rising. high....'''''

Curated by Akram Khan and Company producer Farooq Chaudhry, Portraits in Otherness initiates a new chapter in Akram Khan Company’s history as it seeks to transfer the intangible value of its legacy to a new generation of dance artists.  This innovative platform consists of a series of solo works created by four highly charismatic and distinctive early-career artists: Dickson Mbi, Maya Jilan Dong, Joy Alpuerto Ritter, Riantoand Ching-Ying Chien.

Portraits in Otherness premiered at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London

They will appear at the Summer Nostos Festival of the SNFoundation June 27th, 2019 7.30pm
